On Monday, September 21, the “Vladan Desnica” literary award for the best novel in the Serbian language published in 2025 was formally presented at the National Library of Serbia. “Vladan Desnica” is the only literary award in Serbia that writers award to writers, and this year’s winner is Dubravka Rebić, for her novel “Letu je kraj”.
At the ceremony, the Director of NBS Jasmina Ninkov addressed the audience, and Muharem Bazdulj, president of the jury and last year’s winner of this award, spoke in depth about the award-winning novel. The event was further enriched by an interpretive reading of selected passages from the novel performed by actor Jovan Jovanović.
We were honored by the invitation of the National Library of Serbia to enrich this occasion with our music, and we were particularly glad to receive special compliments from Muharem Bazdulj. The prominent writer, journalist and translator excused himself from the social cocktail hour to attentively listen to our string quartet’s playing – and in addition to applause after each song, he also awarded each of the musicians with a rose at the end of our performance.
Another reminder that the right choice of music — no matter how much it is designed to be just a discrete accompaniment — can become one of the central impressions guests take away from the event.
