A Party to Remember: Wonder Rhythms at Silosi

More than ten thousand people gathered for the fifth Belgrade Meeting of Generations festival, held under the slogan “Under the Starlight.”

On August 22 and 23, the river bank around Silosi, the already recognizable new symbol of Belgrade’s cultural scene, became an old-school summer promenade — where good music, art, cult films, excellent street food and additional programs aimed at different generations met.

It was our pleasure to perform on the second day of this festival intended for all ages – and in one of our favorite forms. Reinforced by our trusty rhythm section, the Wonder Strings quartet gave this summer evening a real rhythm, and showed how easily classical musicians can rock out. The playlist was designed so it had something for every generation: from rock hits such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Viva la Vida”, newer pop covers such as “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish or “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, to  unmissable classics such as the film music from “Balkan Express”.

Our favorite thing was seeing the youngest members of the audience dance along to our music — and the phenomenal atmosphere of the entire festival, which we absolutely felt during our performance, is best described by the Silosi team:

“Under the Starlight” builds its own special atmosphere year after year — one in which no differences are made between generations, but they meet through a common experience. While some recognize the songs they grew up listening to, others discover them for the first time; while some remember the Belgrade corzos and dancing girls, others get to know them through a new version of the same spirit on the banks of the Danube.

This is precisely the idea of this festival: that memories are not only kept as memories, but to be relived and shared with new generations.
